AN IMMERSIVE CINEMATOGRAPHY CRUCIBLE
“Owning a camera doesn’t make you a cinematographer. Engineering light and emotion does.”
There is a massive gap between owning a camera and knowing how to paint with light, engineer a modular rig, and run a set. Many creators hit a ceiling because they lack the foundational understanding of optical physics, set hierarchy, and lighting architecture. This course shatters that ceiling, breaking down a decade of high-end industry experience into an intensive, hands-on curriculum designed to forge true visual storytellers.
The Vision
This is not a standard point-and-shoot videography class. LUMINA is a 30-day immersive crucible limited to an exclusive cohort of 10 students. We prioritize deep mentorship and practical application over theoretical lectures, ensuring every student leaves with the technical mastery and creative confidence of a professional Director of Photography.
Who It Is For
Intermediate filmmakers, seasoned content creators wanting to pivot into narrative or commercial cinematography, and dedicated beginners who want to skip the “run-and-gun” phase and learn actual cinema
standards. The course revolves around The Trinity of the DP, the three pillars essential for high-end production:
1. PILLAR 01: Light Architecture. Shaping, softening, and controlling light to create mood and depth using continuous lighting, modifiers, and grip equipment.
2. PILLAR 02: Camera & Ecosystem Mastery. Deep diving into modern cinema systems, sensor dynamics, and modular rigging for maximum set efficiency.
3. PILLAR 03: Visual Storytelling. Blocking, motivated camera movement, and the art of translating a script into a cohesive visual shot list.
30-DAY INTENSIVE OVERVIEW
Our curriculum is structured into five intensive blocks designed to build your skills from the ground up:
1. Block 1: The Mechanical Foundation. Eliminating reliance on auto-settings and building muscle memory for cinema rig architecture.
a. Takeaway: Total technical autonomy over the camera body.
2. Block 2: The Architecture of Light. Transitioning from available light to constructing cinematic environments from zero.
a. Takeaway: The ability to create “the look” in any location.
3. Block 3: Movement & Space. Internalizing the philosophy of motivated movement and talent blocking.
a. Takeaway: Dynamic storytelling through intentional motion.
4. Block 4: The Production Engine. Evolving from an operator to a Department Head (DP).
a. Takeaway: Leadership and high-efficiency set management.
5. Block 5: Execution & Polish. Final shoot meets practice, followed by node-based color grading.
a. Takeaway: A professional-grade portfolio piece and career roadmap.
OUTCOMES & ASSETS
Course Outcomes
By Day 30, every student will:
● Direct the photography for a professionally lit and graded 1-minute visual piece.
● Master modular cinema camera rigging and on-set technical troubleshooting.
● Successfully replicate complex, high-end cinematic lighting ratios.
● Possess a personalized, actionable roadmap for a professional cinematography career.
The DP Assets (Handouts)
Students receive a premium toolkit to support their future work:
● The DP Handbook: A physical field guide for exposure charts, radio etiquette, and knot tying.
● Production Templates: Digital/physical lighting grids and step-by-step rigging checklists.
● Business Kit: Standard contract and invoice templates for freelance operations.
ASSIGNMENTS
● The Reverse Engineer: Deconstruct a film still by mapping out the lighting fixtures and modifiers used.
● The One-Light Challenge: Create a dramatic, professional portrait using a single source and negative fill.
● The Final Project: Direct a 60-second visual poem focused on movement and composition.
FAQ Highlights
● Do I need my own camera? No. All high-end cinema camera systems, rigging, and lighting gear are provided.
● Is this an editing course? While we cover post-production workflow and grading, 90% of the curriculum is focused on on-set visual capture.
